Cancer
Find out more about cancer, spotting the signs and reducing your risk of cancer.

What is cancer?
Cancer starts in our cells. Cells are tiny building blocks that make up the organs and tissues of our body.

Detecting cancer earlier
Knowing how your body normally looks and feels can help you be aware of any changes that could be caused by cancer.

Respiratory symptoms
If you get out of breath doing things you used to be able to do, or you’ve had a cough for three weeks or more, it could be a sign of lung or heart disease, or even cancer.

Cancer screening
Cancer screening is meant for healthy people with no symptoms at all. Screening looks for early signs that could indicate cancer is developing.

Make sure you know the signs of lung cancer
November is Lung Cancer Awareness month, which encourages people displaying the common symptoms of lung cancer, such as a persistent cough, breathlessness or unexplained weight-loss, to visit their GP.

Urgent referral
If you notice any unusual symptoms or changes to your body, go and see your GP. Many symptoms are often caused by conditions other than cancer.

Living with and beyond cancer
People who have finished cancer treatment often report having difficulties financially, emotionally, practically and medically.
